What is metacognitive reflection? The moderating role of metacognition on emotional regulation and reflection

Introduction This paper explores the trilateral relationship among metacognition, emotional regulation, and reflection under integrative framework of metacognitive reflection. Methods Data were gathered from undergraduate participants at a large state university on East Coast ( N = 493). The quantitative data derived from: Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI), Self-Reflection Insight Scale (SR-IS), Cognitive Reappraisal (ERQ). analysis consisted structural equation modeling (SEM) in which associations between latent constructs tested. Emotional regulation metacognition found to be positively significantly related construct Results SEM results indicated that (which emerged as strongest predictor) together with predicted 52% variance Moreover, moderation model showed moderated such was strong positive predictor when students simultaneously high levels metacognition. In contrast, did not predict for low alternative also contributed most regulation. Discussion These findings suggest interaction is critical gamut
